Tesla has addressed a viral video that falsely claimed the Cybertruck could be remotely deactivated. The company clarified that the video was fabricated, amidst revelations that the U.S. Air Force is considering the Cybertruck for munitions training due to its exceptional durability against gunfire.
Cybertruck's Military Appeal
The U.S. Air Force's Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has expressed interest in acquiring a fleet of 33 vehicles, specifically requesting two Tesla Cybertrucks for its Standoff Precision Guided Munition (SOPGM) training and testing. Government filings indicate that the Cybertruck was chosen because its robust design and stainless steel exoskeleton offer a level of durability that surpasses typical vehicles, making it a more realistic target for simulating encounters with enemy forces.
Unmatched Durability and Design
Documents detailing the military's research highlighted the Cybertruck's unique capabilities. One filing stated, "In the operating theatre, it is likely [that] the type of vehicles used by the enemy may transition to Tesla Cybertrucks as they have been found not to receive the normal extent of damage expected upon major impact. Testing needs to mirror real-world situations." This assessment stems from the vehicle's proven resilience, including instances where it has withstood significant ballistic impact.
Market Research Findings: A February study found no comparable vehicles to the Cybertruck in terms of design, materials, impact resistance, and innovative technologies. The Cybertruck's angular design and stainless steel exoskeleton were cited as key differentiators.
48V Electrical Architecture: The vehicle's advanced electrical system was also noted as a superior feature that competitors are only beginning to develop.
Addressing Misinformation
Tesla's clarification comes after a video circulated online, falsely suggesting Elon Musk could remotely disable a Cybertruck, a claim previously made by Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov. The company has effectively debunked this misinformation, reinforcing the Cybertruck's robust and reliable nature. Despite some public criticism regarding quality issues and a recall for potentially disconnecting body panels, the military's interest underscores the Cybertruck's exceptional strength and unique position in the automotive market.
